Chilean men killed in Victoria car crash

Two Chilean men have died and a woman is fighting for life after two cars crashed at an intersection on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula.

The cars crashed about 10pm on Monday at Rye, at the intersection of Hygeia and Bimble streets.

The driver of the first car is a 29-year-old man from Chile who remains in hospital under police guard.

Two of his four passengers - men aged 28 and 33 - died in the crash.

The other passengers were a 33-year-old Chilean woman who is in a critical condition and a 33-year-old Argentinian who was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A 47-year-old man from Rye was driving the second car and received non-life threatening injuries.

Police are still investigating the accident and have urged any possible witnesses to contact them.
