Two girls, 12, accused of torturing child at sleepover: 'Looked dead'

Two 12-year-old girls have been arrested after an alleged violent assault on another child during a sleepover.

Officers were called to a report of a battered child on February 26 about 7.30am, in the US state of Indiana, with the victim, also 12, claiming her injuries were from the other girls.

The alleged victim's family said the girl was burned with cigarettes, had her head shaved and was sat on to prevent her from breathing, US news outlet Fox59 reported.

Police described the attack as 'severe'

Videos of the alleged attack were uploaded to social media, which Logansport Police Sergeant Dan Frye described as "sensitive" and "severe".

"Unfortunately, I've had to watch some of the video, and it's a good thing we have some video, but it's unpleasant to watch," Sgt Frye told Fox59.

“What the juveniles have been arrested for at this point are different charges related to battery, and anything that you could look at that goes along with that.

“It’s very significant, very severe. It’s a little bit heart-wrenching to watch the videos and to hear what has been alleged at this point."

The victim's aunt, Renita Contreras, told WXIN what happened to her niece was "unimaginable" and in the video she looked like she was "laying there dead".

It was also reported the video showed the alleged victim with blood on her face.

"Two juvenile females sat on top of her for two hours so she could not breathe. They burned her with cigarette lighters," Ms Contreras alleged.

"She was tortured, beaten and confined."

Jaimie Tribbett, the girl’s mother, said the two girls had not just bullied her daughter, but tortured her.

"Mentally, physically tortured my daughter, and it’s not right," she said.
