Two children 'found safe' after being snatched from Melbourne home

UPDATE: The two children taken from their home in Blackburn North on Monday have been found safe around 7.20pm. Two men and a woman are now in custody.

EARLIER: A manhunt is underway after two children and a Mercedes Benz were taken from a Melbourne home on Monday morning.

At around 8.55am on Monday, police were called to a home on Springfield Road in Blackburn North for a welfare check and found a woman. However, two children who lived at the address were also missing.

The children, a five-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy are both of Asian appearance, police said.

"While the exact details are still to be fully established, it’s believed a male entered a residential property on Springfield Road sometime this morning while a woman and her two children were inside," Victoria Police said in a statement.

A male who also lives at the Blackburn North home is believed to have been at home at the time of the incident, and is currently with police.

In addition to the missing children, the family's black 2014 Mercedes Benz C200 sedan with registration BEQ 882 was stolen.

Police said CCTV footage shows the car leaving the property just after 8.45am on Monday and was last seen driving east along Springfield Road.

Police have not confirmed whether the children are related to the wanted man, who is described as having dark skin and was wearing a black hoodie and a face mask.

The area is being patrolled by police in an attempt to locate the Mercedes and the two children.

Detectives have released an image of the exact vehicle they are looking for and a stock image of the same model as the Mercedes.

Anyone who was travelling in the Blackburn North area from 8am this morning who has a dashcam is being asked by police to check footage to see if there is any sightings of the Mercedes.

Anyone who sees the car is urged to call Triple-0 immediately.

Anyone with other information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
