Two charged over southwest Sydney assault

Two men have been arrested over their alleged role in a shooting and assault in southwestern Sydney last year.

Police say a 31-year-old man was left with injuries to his face and torso after he was assaulted by five individuals in a park in Punchbowl about 2pm on November 29.

The group allegedly attacked the victim after firing several shots at him, which missed.

A 23-year-old man arrested at a Heckenberg home on Thursday has been charged with discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company, and is due to appear at Liverpool Local Court on Friday.

Police also said a 19-year-old man arrested on February 7 faces the same charges and has been formally refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on April 8.
