Two charged over roof-fixing scam

A teenager and a man have been charged in relation to alleged roofing scams targeting two elderly women.

A 17-year-old and a 31-year-old have been charged after two separate incidents in Perth’s northern suburbs this week.

On Wednesday, an 88-year-old woman was allegedly approached by two men at her Mount Hawthorn home and told her roof needed repairing.

The men allegedly took the woman to the bank to withdraw money for the repairs but did not carry out any work.

Police also allege one of the men stole a ladder from the woman’s home.

At 12.30pm yesterday, officers spoke to several men and charged a 31-year-old Joondana man with stealing and trespassing.

Yesterday, a 91-year-old woman was also allegedly approached in her home by two men who allegedly came on to her Karrinyup property without permission and climbed on to her roof with ladders.

The men are then alleged to have told the woman her roof needed repairs and taken to the cash machine to pay for the work which was never carried out.

A 17-year-old boy of no fixed address was charged with trespassing in relation to the incident.

The 31-year-old is due to appear in court on January 22 and the teenager will face court at a later date.

Police investigations are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
