Two charged after fatal car crash
A 35-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man have been charged over their alleged links to the fatal crash that killed a beloved grandmother near Brisbane last week.
On Thursday, November 7 about 9.30am in Moreton Bay, north of Brisbane, police allege a 16-year-old was driving a stolen Audi, which collided with a Toyota, killing Rosemary Franzidis, 69, a much-loved grandmother.
The grandmother became trapped inside the car, and despite best efforts from paramedics, could not be saved.
Police have since arrested and charged a 21-year-old man and 35-year-old woman, Rachael Anne Collyer, in relation to alleged linked offences involving a stolen orange Holden Barina hatchback.
It’s understood police were looking to speak to the Caboolture woman for more than three days before she was taken into custody.
Police allege the orange Holden was stolen from a Northgate property between November 6 and 7, and driven by a 16-year-old for much of the morning, accompanied by the 35-year-old woman and 21-year-old man.
The three people soon arrived at Dohles Rocks Road in Griffin, where they allegedly threatened a woman at gunpoint and stole a blue Audi, which police allege was later involved in the fatal crash.
Police allege the Caboolture woman, 21-year-old man and teenager were involved in a series of other carjackings, using what appears to be a gun, as well as allegedly targeting an 18-year-old woman at Rothwell Train Station.
The 35-year-old woman has since been charged with two counts of attempted armed robbery in company, and one count each of armed robbery in company and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
She did not appear before court in person, did not apply for bail and will remain behind bars on remand until at least Thursday.
The 21-year-old man was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted robbery whilst in company and armed, and one count each of robbery in company whilst armed and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
The 16-year-old was charged with manslaughter over the fatal crash in early November, and will appear in court on December 17, charged with one count each of manslaughter, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, armed robbery and two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.
Police will continue the investigation.
