Two boys who allegedly robbed an elderly man in his garage in regional NSW will appear in a children's court charged with a range of violent offences.

The boys, aged 12 and 14, broke into the property on Apsley Street in Wellington, near Dubbo, on Tuesday morning and threatened an 80-year-old man with a weapon before demanding his watch and fleeing the scene, police say.

The pair, arrested by police in a nearby park after a short foot pursuit, will face a children's court on Wednesday charged with aggravated break, enter and steal, assault with intent to rob and breach of bail.
