Dramatic video shows police chasing stolen nursing home bus with elderly man on board
Two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing a nursing home minibus and taking police on an hour-long chase with an elderly man on board on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
It is alleged as a carer was helping a client from the minibus on Hinkler Parade, Maroochydore at 3.20pm on Tuesday afternoon, the men got into the front seat.
The carer tried to stop them but police allege he was kicked in the chest.
Police said the men drove off with a 76-year-old man still in the minibus.
The carer notified police and due to the manner of driving of the minibus, numerous members of the public also contacted police.
It’s alleged the pair drove the van on the wrong side of the road and through a red light.
Police said the van was seen driving erratically in Nambour before returning to Maroochydore.
A tyre deflation device was successfully launched at 4.30pm and the pair were arrested.
The 76-year-old man was transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital for observation but was not seriously injured.
The 42-year-old carer was also taken to hospital for treatment.
The men, aged 20 and 23, will appear at the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
