Twin sisters suffer same tragic diagnosis just weeks apart

A pair of identical twins have suffered a devastating diagnosis just weeks apart.

Hanna Thompson, from San Francisco, and Metta Siebert, both 35, have been diagnosed with breast cancer, according to a GoFundMe page.

Ms Siebert, from Kansas City, felt a lump in her left breast at the beginning of June and after a mammogram it was revealed she had cancer.

“Hanna had previously felt a lump in her right breast, but thought it was a clogged milk duct since she was still breastfeeding her infant son,” the page reads.

“Because of Metta's diagnosis, Hanna then got a mammogram and was also diagnosed with breast cancer.

“As kids, we used to do everything together, evidently the Universe wanted us to keep that tradition going.

“As you can imagine, both us and our families are reeling from this one-two punch diagnosis. This has been incredibly difficult, and we are hoping to focus on treatment and healing.”

The sisters plan on undergoing chemotherapy and possibly some radiation treatments.

According to ABC 7, the pair are mirror twins. One is right-handed, the other left.

One has a weaker right eye, the other has a weaker left eye.

Notably they also both have cancerous cells detected in different breasts.

Dr Pamela Munster told ABC 7 it was not unusual for twins to get similar breast cancer diagnoses.

But she said it was strange they were both diagnosed around the same time – three weeks apart.

Luckily, the twins have each other.

"Not that I would wish it upon her," Ms Siebert said.

"But it maybe makes it a teeny bit easier."
