Malcolm Turnbull has revealed his favourite ABBA tune after the Swedish pop group announced it was recording new music for the first time in 35 years.

The prime minister tried (and failed) to drag his treasurer into the fray when asked about the band's reunion on Saturday.

"We have all got favourite ABBA songs but it's the classic, it's hard to beat Dancing Queen, isn't it?" Mr Turnbull told reporters in Sydney.

However, the prime minister declined to dance, jive or belt out any bars from the Europop anthem.

"Actually, Scott (Morrison) does a bit of ABBA," he joked, clearly having the time of his life.

"Now look, Bjorn and Benny have got to go."
