The ‘truth’ behind the tan: White House explains Donald Trump's orange glow

A senior White House official has revealed why President Donald Trump has an orange-tan complexion.

While there have been claims that the president uses a tanning bed, which would account for the pale white rings around his eyes, officials are adamant that there isn’t one anywhere in the White House.

Trump himself has previously stated that he doesn’t use sun beds or spray tan and his unusual hue has since become something of a small state secret.

And the reason for his sun-kissed glow? It’s all down to the president’s “good genes” and a touch of “translucent powder”, a senior White House administration official told the New York Times on the condition that he remain anonymous.

Dr Tina Alster, a top dermatologist, also weighed in, telling the Times that he was most likely using tanning creams or sprays to achieve his look.

She said that it’s likely that he applies them himself, which would account for the colour and tone variation.

The excuse hasn’t been lost on Twitter users either with many mocking the White House line.

“His ancestors were definitely tangerines,” one man tweeted.

Another suggested “someone should build a wall” around Trump’s genes while another simply tweeted, “Fake hues”.

One man simply delivered a joke to mock Trump’s complexion.

“Why does Trump spray-tan?” he tweeted.

“Because he doesn’t get enough sunlight standing in (Barack) Obama’s shadow.”
