'Be careful': Truth behind mystery blue markings at dog park

Pet owners have become wary of precarious blue markings around a fence at a dog park on Sydney’s northern beaches.

A woman wrote on Facebook she was concerned the council had sprayed poison at a dog park in Bayview.

“Be careful at the Bayview dog park the council have sprayed poison and it’s everywhere,” she wrote.

“Dogs love sniffing around here so they’ll just absorb the poison so easily and there is no signage advising of the spray.

“Northern Beaches Council why can’t we use non-toxic methods in this day and time?”

Others also expressed their concern over the blue substance, with one saying, “that was stupid”.

“Terrible there is no sign to tell you what sort of poison it is!! It could be anything,” one commented.

“One would hope that whatever this substance is, it’s non-toxic to dogs otherwise it would be totally irresponsible for councils to spray where dogs will come into contact with it,” a third said.

However director at Your Vet Online, Leigh Davidson, commented dog owners could relax as it was not harmful to pets or humans.

Another agreed, saying surely the council would not spray a substance that was dangerous to dogs at a dog park.

The Northern Beaches Council says on its website it is undertaking seasonal weed control in turf on sporting fields and high use reserves.

In Bayview it says it is using the Casper Turf Herbicide, which is not classified as a hazardous chemical, according to the Australian criteria for the classification of chemicals.

Yahoo News Australia has contacted the Northern Beaches Council for comment.
