Trump attacks Harris over immigration, calls for her to be impeached

Former President Trump ratcheted up his attacks against Vice President Harris over immigration, calling for her to be impeached over the weekend.

“Kamala’s Illegal Migrants. It’s the biggest crime story of our time. She should resign or be IMPEACHED!” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform on Saturday.

He reiterated a similar sentiment while campaigning in Erie, Pa., on Sunday, saying at one point “hundreds of people have been murdered because of her action at the border, and thousands more will follow in rapid succession. She should be impeached and prosecuted for her actions.”

Both remarks were made only days after Harris visited the U.S. southern border in Arizona on Friday.

Trump’s attacks against the vice president on the issue of immigration are not new. Ahead of her Arizona visit, Trump said at a separate event at Trump Tower that “for nearly four years, we have been living through the worst border crisis in the history of the world,” and he called her “the architect of this destruction.”

Harris has sought to position herself as “tough” on the border and has criticized Trump for the collapse of the bipartisan border bill.

“But Donald Trump doesn’t want to fix this problem. He talks a big game about a lot of things,” Harris said at a Nevada rally in August. “But he talks a big game about border security, but he does not walk the walk.

“Earlier this year, we had a chance to pass the toughest bipartisan border security bill in decades, but Donald Trump tanked the bill because he thought it would help him win an election,” she added, vowing to sign that legislation into law if given the chance as president.

When reached for comment, the Harris campaign pointed to her remarks on immigration while in Douglas, Ariz., where she reiterated some of the same sentiment about Trump and border legislation as she did during the Nevada event.

“In the four years that Donald Trump was president, he did nothing to fix our broken immigration system. He did not solve the shortage of immigration judges,” Harris said in Arizona. “He did not solve the shortage of border agents. He did not create lawful pathways into our nation. He did nothing to address an outdated asylum system, and did not work with other governments in our hemisphere to deal with what clearly is also a regional challenge.”
