Truck driver fined over 'absolutely unbelievable' act

A truck driver has been fined for an “absolutely unbelievable” act while behind the wheel of a 44-tonne vehicle.

The man was filmed driving along the M4 west of London earlier this week with his hands off the steering wheel.

Why? Because he was using two mobile phones. One in each hand.

Avon and Somerset Police released the footage as part of a campaign to warn drivers about driving while distracted.

Chief Inspector Jason Shears, Roads Policing Lead for Avon and Somerset Police said distracted driving is “an unacceptable risk”.

“Research has shown that drivers using a phone – handheld or hands free – are four times more likely to be involved in a collision and their driving is also impaired to a degree similar to that of a drink driver,” he said.

On Facebook, people were left shaking their heads at the distracted truckie.

“Wrong and stupid what this driver was doing, but seriously?” one man wrote.

One woman wrote it was “great that he was caught”.

“Absolutely unbelievable,” she wrote.

“Guess the driver was complacent, sure got his comeuppance.”
