Triple-0 calls go down across Australia after Telstra outage

A Telstra outage has seen triple zero calls across Australia going unanswered.

A spokesman for the telecommunications company said a cable cut caused by “an unknown party” between Orange and Bowral in NSW on Friday about 2.05am was behind the interruptions.

“Routers impacted by the cable cut were restored about 4.50am today and services progressively returned to normal,” he said.

“A Telstra fibre repair crew has been dispatched.”

NSW Police is aware of the issue and advised anyone needing to contact emergency services can call the police assistance line on 131 444.

Queensland Police said it is able to receive triple zero calls.

But Telstra tweeted “there are still intermittent interruptions” to triple zero calls in Victoria, NSW and Western Australia.

Telstra added it was working with emergency departments in the three states.
