Treasury Pick Bessent to Meet Elizabeth Warren on Capitol Hill
(Bloomberg) -- Scott Bessent, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to run the Treasury Department, will meet with frequent Wall Street critic and Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren on Wednesday, part of a series of meetings he’s having on Capitol Hill ahead of his confirmation hearings next month.

Bessent is on Capitol Hill to meet with a set of Republican and Democratic senators on Wednesday, including Warren, outgoing Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Oklahoma Senator James Lankford, according to a statement from Trump’s transition team.
The meeting with Warren, a member of the banking and finance committees in the Senate, could get testy. The Massachusetts senator frequently spars with banking and Federal Reserve representatives, and is likely to take a skeptical view of the incoming administration’s economic priorities, including extending and expanding on Trump’s 2017 tax legislation.
“Wall Street may be breathing a sigh of relief at Scott Bessent’s nomination, but working people see no help coming their way,” Warren said in a Nov. 25 statement after Trump announced his nominee.

Given the Republican majority in the Senate, any tensions with Warren or other Democrats won’t likely stand in the way of Bessent’s confirmation. The founder of macro hedge fund Key Square Group met last week with Mike Crapo of Idaho, the top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee.
Crapo after the meeting called Bessent “an accomplished business leader who understands the importance of preserving and building on the pro-growth tax policies.”
