Travis Head's fresh crack at Indian cricket fans after wife caught in ugly drama during Tests

The batter is lapping up Australia's historic Test series victory over India.

Travis Head has taken a pointed swipe at Indian cricket fans after his wife and kids were caught up in a nasty storm during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Head had the last laugh on Sunday, making 34 not out and combing beautifully with Beau Webster (39 not out) as Australia chased down the victory target of 162 with six wickets in hand.

It gave Australia a 3-1 series victory and handed them the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in 10 years. It also marked the first time Australia have come back from 0-1 down in a home series to win since 1969.

Head was arguably Australia's best player across the five Tests, making 448 runs at an average of 56. But he was caught up in controversy during the fourth Test at the MCG when Indian fans took offence to his celebration after dismissing Rishabh Pant.

Head put his right index finger into a hole he created with his left hand, and it later came to light that he was re-creating a photo from 2022 when he put his spinning finger into a glass of ice to cool it down. At the time he was joking that his finger was so hot it needed some ice after taking four wickets in the first Test during that year's tour of Sri Lanka.

After dismissing Pant he re-created the gesture, but the majority of Indian fans took it the wrong way. Some accused Head of making a crude and unsavoury joke at Pant's expense, and the Aussies wife and kids became the target of some vile trolling on social media.

There were beautiful scenes on Sunday as Head celebrated with wife Jess and their two kids on the SCG, and he took a fresh dig at fans on social media. Head uploaded a photo of himself with his right index finger in a glass of beer, re-igniting the controversy and taking a fresh dig at fans.

Speaking on field after Australia's triumph, the batter said he was looking forward to some downtime with his family before heading back to Sri Lanka. "It's just nice to contribute," he said. "I don't worry too much about what the result might be. I just realised we are into the World Test Championship. I forgot about that in what has been a crazy three days. It's been busy and I'm looking forward to 10 days off."

Head admitted the series has been "very difficult" after he was also at the centre of a flashpoint in Adelaide when he and Mohammed Siraj were reprimanded for a fiery confrontation. "The last series in Australia they played exceptionally well. We probably let one slip in Perth (when India won the first Test) and we traditionally play really well there, so we were on the back foot," he said.

"The series could have gone in any direction for the last few Test matches and it's been a crazy five [games]. The media has hyped it up in different directions and different narratives. I don't agree with some and I do agree with some others. It's a bloody tough tour. It's nice to come out on the winning side.

"I don't know what I'm going to do over the next few days. We've got 10 or 12 days off before we go to Sri Lanka and I'm gonna use every little bit of that. It's been a tough tour, so I will look forward to a couple of cold ones tonight. I've been off the drink, so I will look after myself and then turn my attention to what's next."
