Lionel Messi has an uncertain future at FC Barcelona, that much is clear, but until recently it appears to be the Argentine who was driving the negotiations after returning from holiday early to meet with Ronald Koeman. But now reports suggest there is an openness from some members of the Catalan club's board to selling their No 10 - should the terms be right.

Elsewhere, Manchester United appear to be struggling to progress a move for Jadon Sancho, which could lead to Douglas Costa as an alternative, with the Juventus star considerably cheaper - the Old Lady remain keen on Paul Pogba, which would represent a separate deal. Chelsea continue to push ahead with plans to sign Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen for a few north of £80m, while Arsenal hope to fend off late competition from United to sign Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille.

Should they manage to do so, another suitor for the Brazilian in Napoli may turn their attention to Gunners centre-back Shkodran Mustafi. Thiago Silva could emerge as a key target for Chelsea to strengthen at the back after the Champions League final, when the Brazilian is expected to leave PSG on a free transfer.
