Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea are pushing hard to strengthen their squads ahead of the new season.

Mikel Arteta’s side remain interested in Raphinha, also wanted by Spurs. Gabriel Jesus is in the middle of a tug of war between the two north London rivals, with Antonio Conte looking to swoop for the Gunners’ number one attacking target. Tottenham have also been given a boost in their pursuit of Alessandro Bastoni.

Chelsea are kicking into gear too and want to make Raheem Sterling the marquee signing of their new era under Todd Boehly’s ownership while Richarlison has emerged as another attacking target. Reports also suggest Torino defender Gleison Bremer is a key target for the club and a proposal has been made in an attempt to replace Antonio Rudiger. Chelsea pundits question Sterling pursuit

Former Chelsea stars Franck Leboeuf and Craig Burley fear the club are ignoring their biggest problem by pursuing a deal for Raheem Sterling.

The Manchester City winger, out of contract next summer, is the subject of interest from Stamford Bridge and Standard Sport reported on Monday that he would be open to the transfer.

“That’s not going to resolve the problems Chelsea have, I think in terms of scoring goals and bringing the confidence back to all the players.” Leboeuf told ESPN.

“If this deal does happen, are Chelsea just trying to overload themselves with similar players?” added Burley.

Ryan Giggs is to stand down as Wales manager, the PA news agency understands.

Giggs has been on leave from his post since November 2020 and faces a domestic violence trial in Manchester on August 8.

The 48-year-old former Manchester United star is accused of controlling and coercive behaviour against his former girlfriend Kate Greville between August 2017 and November 2020.

Giggs is also accused of assaulting Ms Greville, causing her actual bodily harm, and of the common assault of her younger sister, Emma Greville, at his home in Worsley, Greater Manchester, on November 1, 2020.

Giggs has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Arsenal defender Omar Rekik has joined Sparta Rotterdam on loan.

Rekik will spend next season at the club, who will cover his full salary. The 20-year-old will hope that regular first-team football will solidfy his place in Tunisia’s World Cup squad.

“Omar is well regarded as a talent at Arsenal, but it is not easy to break through there,” Rotterdam’s technical director Gerard Nijkamp said.

“He trained with the first team, but it is important for his development to make minutes at the highest level, a chance that is greater at Sparta.

“Omar is a central defender who is strong in football, but also leads the way in battle and does not shy away from duels. There was a lot of competition to attract him, but we are happy that he chose Sparta.”

Salah demands not met

Liverpool continue to appear unlikely to meet Mohamed Salah’s contract demands.

The Egyptian, who is out of contract at the end of next season, wants a new deal worth £400,000-a-week but the Reds are not willing to offer him that amount.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the club fear doing so would bring Salah out of proportion with the rest of the squad, resulting in a number of other players asking for huge increases.

While talks are continuing, Liverpool are willing to accept losing him for free next summer.

Inter Milan have opened the door to selling Chelsea and Tottenham targets Milan Skriniar or Alessandro Bastoni.

The two centre-backs have been linked with moves to the Premier League, along with interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Spurs have made Bastoni their first-choice defensive target as Antonio Conte looks for a left-sided centre-back, while the Blues have been linked with both as Thomas Tuchel looks to replace both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Inter chief executive Giuseppe Marotta told Radio Rai: “It’s certainly easier to replace a centre-back than a striker ... we will probably be forced to sell someone in that position.”

Mane is set to have a medical on Tuesday ahead of completing his move to the Bundesliga champions, bringing an end to six years as a Liverpool player.

Leeds star Raphinha says playing time will be key in deciding his next club, amid links with Arsenal.

Barcelona have most regularly been credited with interest but now the Gunners are reportedly in pole position for the Brazilian’s signature.

Raphinha addressed his future last month, telling reporters: “I have a contract with Leeds until 2024, my future is in the hands of [agent] Deco and Leeds.

“Knowing that there are less than six months left for the World Cup, you have to be active in the clubs.”

The defender has been officially presented at his new club today, revealing that he turned down rivals Barcelona.

“The first time I got in contact, not really me, my agent, was early September,” Rudiger said.

Takumi Minamino has revealed his frustration over the lack of first-team opportunities he has been given at Liverpool.

While Liverpool have been faced with a hectic season, playing every possible match as they reached the final of all three knockout competitions, Minamino made just nine starts across all competitions. One of those came in the Premier League, a competition in which he played 179 minutes.

Reports suggest Minamino’s time at Anfield could be coming to an end, with Monaco a potential destination.

“Many of the games I played weren’t of interest to anyone,” Minamino told Sanspo.

“I felt motivated by regret and anger every day.”

West Ham have completed the £28million signing of defender Nayef Aguerd to kick-start a summer spending spree at the London Stadium.

Aguerd joins from Rennes and has signed a five-year contract.

West Ham have paid an initial £26.7m to make the 26-year-old their first summer signing.

David Moyes is targeting at least six further signings this summer and will be backed in the transfer market, having secured a second successive season of European football.

Ramsay’s first Liverpool interview

Calvin Ramsay is the Reds’ third summer signing after Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez and is expected to conclude their incoming transfer business for the window. He has signed a five-year deal.

“I’m just buzzing and it’s a dream come true really to be here,” Ramsay told Liverpool’s official website.

“It was a dream come true to play for Aberdeen, and now to be at one of the biggest, if not the biggest club in the world, it’s a massive achievement and I’m looking forward to trying to show the fans what I’ve got.

“Hopefully I can come in in pre-season, show everyone at the club, the staff, players what I’ve got and then we’ll see what happens from there.”

Manchester United are prioritising midfield arrivals in the form of Frenkie de Jong and Christian Eriksen this window.

Erik ten Hag believes it’s an area where United are short and he sees those players as crucial to turning the club’s fortunes around, according to the Mirror.

Barcelona’s De Jong valutation has yet to be met, while United have offered Eriksen a 12-month contract with the option of another year. He is considering his options, with Brentford keen to keep him at the club and Tottenham also interested.
