Gold Coast tram hits fire truck, derails

A tram has been derailed on the Gold Coast after a collision with a fire truck.

The accident occurred around 7.45am on the corner of Hamilton Ave and Surfers Paradise Blvd at Surfers Paradise,

The collision pushed the tram off the tracks but it stayed upright.

The two QFES officers in the fire truck and the tram driver were taken to Gold Coast University hospital with minor injuries, while 17 other people on the tram were assessed at the scene by paramedics.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said authorities are looking into the crash.

"Queensland police are now looking into the circumstances of the incident and we'll be cooperating fully with them," the spokesperson told AAP.
