Man arrested over alleged train fire

A train at Bankstown in Sydney’s southwest had to be evacuated because of a fire onboard on Saturday but passengers have been spared from delays.

Fire and Rescue NSW workers put out the small fire around 12pm.

In a statement, NSW Police said officers attended Bankstown Railway Station where they were told a man had allegedly set some property alight.

“The 35-year-old man was arrested and was taken to Bankstown Hospital for assessment,” a spokeswoman said.

“Inquiries are ongoing.”

It’s believed that a passenger onboard set an object alight.

There were no injuries reported.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said that the incident had not caused any delays on the T3 line.
