Tragic twist after Woolworths truck driver is killed in horror crash
Family and friends of a delivery driver killed in a crash in Adelaide are too worried to tell his elderly mother about his death due to concerns over her poor health.
Jatinder Brar, 25, was driving a Woolworths delivery truck at Salisbury South on Friday when a stolen car allegedly slammed into him.
He had just finished an accounting degree in December and was planning to return to India to visit his mum and sister. Mr Brar was also due to be married in a few months.
Mr Brar’s mother suffers from a heart condition. She knows he was in an accident but doesn’t know he’s dead.
Her illness means she can’t travel to Australia but Mr Brar’s sister is expected to arrive in Adelaide on Monday for a gathering with his friends.
Samantha Pohl, who regularly received her groceries from Mr Brar, said he loved his job.
“He would never drag his feet coming to work,” she said.
“He would be smiley and happy. That’s how we remember him.
“It’s strange knowing that we’re not going to see him anymore. It’s sad.
A fundraising page has been set up to bring Mr Brar’s body to India and to help support his family.
It’s alleged he was in a fatal crash with a 24-year-old woman who had stolen a car last week.
Police say the woman then left the scene before she was arrested in Taperoo.
