A man has died after he was filmed hanging from an amusement park ride.
The man, 32, was filmed dangling from the Sky Ride at Lagoon Amusement Park in the US state of Utah on Saturday, according to video obtained by Fox 13 Salt Lake City.
He appears to be holding on to the safety bar of a seat with nothing but the ground below him. It is estimated he is about 15 metres in the air.
Lucy Grace Astilla, who filmed the incident, told the station she does not know why the man was hanging from the ride. In the video, he does not appear distressed.
“What is he doing?” Ms Astilla says in the video as she passes him.
The man fell not long after this and suffered critical injuries. Police on Monday said he had died but gave no other details other than his death did not appear intentional.
Ms Astilla said she struggled to sleep thinking of the man hanging from the ride.
The man’s death remains under investigation. Lagoon Amusement Park said the ride, which operates like a ski chair lift, was functioning properly and its statement was backed up by police.
Farmington Police Chief Wayne Hansen told Standard-Examiner police do not know why he was hanging from the ride but the safety bar was working.
“It’s really a matter of what he was doing and why, and some of it we may never know,” he said.
