Tragedy as man dies in water skiing incident

A man in his 50s has died in a water skiing incident on the Murray River.

Police have been told the man fell into the water when the boat he was on stopped suddenly.

A crime scene has been set up by police and officers calling for anyone with information to come forward.

The incident happened near the private tourist and resort development of Perricoota Waters, near Moama on the NSW/Victoria border.

Police say a boat was towing a water skier about 7.30pm on Saturday.

“Officers attached to Murray River Police District arrived and were told that the man had fallen from a boat after the vessel suddenly stopped after a water skier it was towing fell in the water,” police say in a statement.

The 51-year-old was taken ashore and treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

“Police have established a crime scene and are investigating the incident,” the statement reads.

The waterskier was uninjured and police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Police are calling for anyone with information to come forward.
