Tragedy in the Celebrity MasterChef kitchen as final four named
Judge John Torode did the Steps Tragedy dance routine as he sent Ian H Watkins home.
What did you miss?
Judge John Torode did the Tragedy dance as he sent Ian H Watkins, from Steps, home from Celebrity MasterChef 2024.
The judge lifted his hands either side of his head in the dance move and declared it was a "tragedy" as he sent the singer home. H's first attempt at baking a cake for the judges was deemed "death by chocolate". Before he left the kitchen the singer led the remaining contestant in a chorus of Steps' 1998 number one single.
What, how, and why?
In a round where the contestants had to cook a dish inspired by a professional chef, H cooked a chocolate cake with popping candy and edible flowers influenced by Heston Blumenthal. But while judges Torode and Gregg Wallace enjoyed the flavour, they said his portion sizes were too big and it was "too much chocolate."
Wallace told the Steps singer: "I reckon that's about two or three kilos. Attacked by chocolate, I reckon!"
Torode added: "That really lovely chocolate cake is wonderful and moist. Your butter cream is rich and it's sweet. Then you have chocolate popping candy as well, which is good, but it's just way too big and it's too rich. It's just chocolate on chocolate."
Wallace agreed: "As much as I love chocolate, I'd I'd like something else just to break up the chocolate."
H said: "Today was a massive risk for me. Every slip up counts now - death by chocolate. I knew the only thing that I have worries about is my portion size too big as well." He joked: "You can never be too big, darling."
After H was sent home he said "I have had the craziest, most amazing time. Thank you for changing my life. Seriously. I mean it, bless you, bless you." He gave both judges a hug, while still wearing his chocolate-covered apron.
Wallace told him: "Well done mate." And Torode said: "Tragedy!"
The other contestants then all began singing Tragedy and dancing along with him. As the Welsh star walked out the kitchen they shouted: "Legend!"
H added: "I am absolutely amazed that I even made it this far. There's a little bit of me that would have loved to carry on, but I'm so proud of myself. I've learned so much, you know, I can filet a fish. I can make pasta. I can cook a lobster. I will tell you I will be eating out every night this month..."
Viewers also saw the joke in the title of Steps' hit title as H left the show.
One wrote on social media platform X: "H from steps booted out of #celebritymasterchef , now that’s a tragedy."
Another said: "#CelebrityMasterChef H's chocolate bomb backfired and he goes home. Tragedy!" And another posted: "H...just a step too far #celebritymasterchef."
