Toxic smoke pours out from Melbourne factory blaze
A blaze at a Melbourne factory is sending toxic smoke blowing across a Melbourne suburb.
The fire broke out at a Campbellfield factory around 8.30pm on Monday with fuel drums making conditions hazardous.
A watch and act message has been issued for surrounding suburbs including Broadmeadows, Campbellfield, Fawkner and Glenroy with winds fanning the toxic smoke.
The fire was brought under control roughly two hours after the blaze broke out, with the area around Camp Rd and Sydney Rd currently closed.
The rail line between Gowrie and Upfield has also been closed with replacement buses running.
"Anyone located in in the vicinity of the Camp Road fire and up to 1km in all directions should take shelter indoors immediately," a Melbourne Fire Brigade spokesperson said.
"Close all exterior doors, windows and vents and ensure that heating and cooling systems are turned off."
