Total fire ban in Victoria's Mallee region

A total fire ban has been declared in Victoria's Mallee district as catastrophic bushfires continue to rage across NSW and Queensland.

The CFA announced the ban in the state's northwest region from just after midnight through to 11.59pm on Monday and comes as total fire bans continue across several states.

With a fire danger rating of severe, no fires can be lit or be allowed to remain alight in the open air, the CFA says on its website.
