A Russian man was rescued alive on Monday, October 14, after spending almost 10 weeks adrift on a boat off the Siberian Coast in the Sea of Okhotsk, the Far Eastern Transport Prosecutorâs Office said.Russian authorities originally reported the âdisappearance of a group of people traveling on a small-sized vesselâ on August 12.They said that two men and the son of one of them, a 15-year-old, had departed on a whale-watching trip on August 9 from Cape Perovsky, in Russiaâs far eastern region, on a catamaran-type boat.Their destination was Okha, further up north, but communication with them was lost and search and rescue operations were launched.Then on October 14, the Far Eastern Transport Prosecutorâs Office reported that the vessel had been discovered by fishermen near the village of Ust-Khairyuzovo, and that one man was found alive.The other man and his son had died, Russian authorities said.Footage released by the Far Eastern Transport Prosecutorâs Office shows the survivor gesticulating from the boat.Russian media said that the survivor, a 46-year-old man, was in serious but stable condition and was being treated at a hospital.News outlet KP-Irkutsk said that the two people who died were the brother and nephew of the 46-year-old-man, who kept their bodies on the boat with him for the whole period he was missing.Russian authorities havenât disclosed what caused the boat to get lost at sea.
