'They would have torn a child to pieces': Perth grandmother attacked by dogs

A grandmother is fearing for her safety after two dogs that viciously attacked her were returned to their owners.

Diana, 76, was mauled by two pit bulls that escaped from a home next-door while she was putting her bins out at her home in the Perth suburb of Palmyra.

Two neighbours heard her screaming for help and they too were attacked as they rushed to her aid.

Diana suffered wounds so deep, some were even down to her bone.

She is unhappy with a court decision to release the dangerous dogs back to the neighbour and is taking the issue to parliament.

“What would have happened to a child? That would’ve torn a child to pieces,” she said.

Diana still lives with the trauma from the attack and the fact the dogs were not put down and are back next door.

“I want to know why,” she said.

Member for Bicton Lisa O’Malley said a destruction order put forward by the City of Melville had been authorised by a magistrate but later revoked.

“The outcome (means) the dogs were returned to the owners following modifications to the owner’s house,” she said.

Diana wants the law to be changed.

“Take your dog to be retrained or if they’ve attacked somebody they should not be in your possession. They should be put down,” she said.
