Tokyo's Ghibli Museum is all our dreams come true and more

By Aaron Tan

Mr Hayao Miyazaki, the father of Japanese animation and creator of beloved films such as “Spirited Away”, “Princess Mononoke” and “My Neighbour Totoro”, has brought his fascinating works of art to life in a museum located along the outskirts of Mitaka City—just a short trip west of Tokyo.

Built with Miyazaki’s personal vision in mind, the museum/children’s playground (although adults would probably have no trouble getting lost in the whimsy) act as a dedication to his life and the studio’s distinct art style. It gives an intimate tour of the renowned animator’s animation process and filming techniques used by both him and his crew.

A must-visit for anyone who’s a Miyazaki-fan, it’s no surprise tickets are often sold out well in advance. If you’re lucky enough to gain entry into this legendary museum, here are few things you can expected to see when once you step into this captivating wonderland:

1. Totoro actually greets you at the entrance

Just like in the movie, these tiny dust bunnies are as cheeky (and adorable!) as ever.

These short films have never and will never be released to the outside world. Another reason to pay this fascinating museum a visit.
