Toddler suffers burns after falling into campfire on family trip

A severely burnt toddler is on the long road to recovery after accidentally stumbling into a fire on a camping trip with her family in Queensland

Serenity Parker was on a vacation with her father, mother and brothers at the Springs 4X4 Adventure Park at The Glen near Warwick when she tripped and landed onto the fire’s coals on September 16, The Chronicle reported.

She had been following her father to a rubbish bin. When he turned round, he saw her submerged in the flames.

“It’s a terrifying thing to happen,” Mr Parker told The Courier Mail.

She suffered severe burns to her feet and arms despite being pulled from the fire immediately. The site’s management called emergency services as cold water was applied to her body.

She was airlifted to Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital for emergency treatment where she remains in specialist care.

“She is still suffering from a lot of pain from the burns and spends a good portion of the day screaming and crying,” the family wrote on Serenity’s GoFundMe page, which has so far raised nearly $1000 for her ongoing treatment.

Serenity, one week from her second birthday at the time of the accident, suffered nine per cent burns to her body and now has an anxious wait to receive a skin graft for her burns. She has since undergone several surgeries but has many more ahead.

“The financial burden of this tragic accident is going to be stressful and ongoing for this young family so any donation small or big would help,” a family friend pleaded.
