Toddler killed after being run over by car outside home

A two-year-old boy has been killed after being struck by a reversing car outside his home in Queensland.

The toddler was hit outside the private residence in Yarraman, about an hour and a half north of Toowoomba, in the Darling Downs region about 3pm, Queensland Police confirmed.

In a desperate effort to save the child, he was rushed to a nearby ambulance centre where attempts were made to save his life.

Paramedics tended to his severe injuries but he could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The forensic crash unit is investigating.

The tragedy has been described as "horrific".

Queensland Police will not be releasing a statement on the incident due to it unfolding on a private property.
