Toddler dies after being hit by a car in Victoria

A 14-month-old child has died after being hit by a car in Victoria.

Authorities were called to the incident in Bendigo at about 7.30pm on Wednesday night, Victoria Police said in a statement.

Investigators were told a car was travelling in the slip lane of High Street when it struck the toddler.

The child suffered critical injuries and was taken to hospital but later died.

The driver of the car, a 56-year-old man, stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquires.
