Today's birthday, May 15: Australian actress Jessica Falkholt (1988 - 2018)
Promising Australian actress and star of Home and Away Jessica Falkholt lost her life earlier this year following a car accident on Boxing Day, 2017, which also claimed the lives of her parents and sister.
Falkholt was born in Sydney in 1988 to Swedish father Lars and Italian mother Vivian. She graduated from Gilroy College in Castle Hill in 2006 and went on to study a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Communication at the University of New South Wales.
Following graduation, she worked for Seven Network and Carnival Films acting in television commercials.
In 2012, Falkholt was accepted into the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and while there had small television roles in Tricky Business, Underbelly: Badness, and Mystery Road.
She graduated from NIDA in 2015 and a year later took on a recurring role in the long-running Australian soap Home and Away.
Her 16-episode story arc as troubled character Hope was a hit among audiences.
In 2017, after leaving the series, Falkholt nabbed the lead role in her first feature film, Harmony. The supernatural thriller is set for release this year.
She also finished filming a role in Nine Network's drama series Bite Club in December.
On the day the Falkholt family lost their lives they had been travelling up the Princes Highway to return home to Ryde after spending Christmas on the NSW south coast.
Police said a man travelling in the opposite direction failed to navigate a curve in his four-wheel drive and hit the Falkholt's sedan head-on near Ulladulla.
Jessica's parents and the driver of the 4WD, 50-year-old Craig Whitall, were killed instantly, while her sister Annabelle died three days later in hospital.
Falkholt was taken to hospital in a coma but died at St George Hospital on January 17, aged just 29.
Tributes flowed for the young actress following news of her death, including a twitter post from her Home and Away co-star James Stewart who described Falkholt as "such a beautiful and talented soul - taken so soon and so tragically".
