Today Show hosts test positive for Covid after charity event

The Today Show's Allison Langdon and Brooke Boney have tested positive for Covid-19 and will be away from the show for seven days until they've completed their isolation period.

Karl Stefanovic announced their absence on the show on Tuesday morning, saying they'd be back "sometime next week" once they were fully recovered.

The presenter also shared that a number of producers also tested positive, saying the virus spread "quickly through the back room".

Sarah Abo filled in for Ally, while Weekend Today's Richard Wilkins is filling in for Brooke.

Ally and Brooke didn't test positive until after they finished work on Monday.

"Sarah is in for Ally this morning. [She's] resting up after testing positive to Covid. Brooke has also gone down with Covid," Karl announced.

"Both are in isolation and we'll see them sometime next week, as well as half the behind-the-scenes people at the Today show [who] have come down with Covid as well."

He then joked that he and newsreader Alex Cullen had managed to avoid being struck down with the virus because of their athleticism.

"Interestingly, those of us who are elite athletes... are fine," he joked.

It's likely that Karl managed to dodge the virus after having it over the Christmas holidays.

According to the Daily Mail, a Channel 9 spokesperson said, "Both Ally and Brooke tested positive to Covid on Monday.

"They are both now isolating for seven days and will return back on air once they are clear and feeling better. Regular testing and observing any symptoms of those who have come into contact with them will continue."

The pair recently attended the Wharf4Ward charity event where it's possible they were exposed to the virus.

It comes after Sunrise's David 'Kochie' Koch caught Covid at the Red Cross flood appeal telethon earlier last week.

Natalie Barr also took time off last week, however, she simply had a cold.
