Today newsreader Sylvia Jeffreys 'next to go'
Following the news Peter Stefanovic has left Channel Nine after 15 years, it’s rumoured other changes at the network are imminent.
Peter’s wife and Today newsreader Sylvia Jeffreys is at the centre of such talk.
Entertainment commentator Peter Ford has suggested the 32-year-old will be replaced by Nine News Perth presenter Tracy Vo while Sylvia will be ‘redeployed’ to another role.
“As I reported yesterday there is also a plan to also ‘redeploy’ @SylviaJeffreys and @Tracy_Vo is favourite to move east,” Ford tweeted on Tuesday evening after Peter’s departure was confirmed.
Channel Nine has declined to comment when contacted by Yahoo Lifestyle.
Sylvia has been working for Channel Nine since 2005 in various presenting roles, most recently as newsreader for Today, hosted by her brother-in-law Karl Stefanovic and Georgie Gardner.
Meanwhile Tracy, 35, has been with the network since 2007, currently part of the Perth news team.
On Tuesday it was confirmed Sylvia’s husband Peter was leaving Channel Nine after 15 years with the network.
He was most recently fronting Weekend Today and some 60 Minutes segments.
“Peter has decided to explore new opportunities and is looking forward to spending weekends with his wife,” read a statement from a Channel Nine representative.
“He has been a respected member of the Nine News team and Weekend Today, and we wish him all the best for the future.”
While Peter most recently hosted Weekend Today alongside Allison Langdon, his wife Sylvia Jeffreys has been the Today newsreader during the week, joining her brother-in-law Karl for the popular breakfast TV show.
Peter had nothing but positive words about the network and his colleagues when his departure was confirmed on Tuesday.
“I’ve had an amazing time at Nine being a foreign correspondent, news reporter and covering some amazing stories for 60 Minutes,” he said.
“I’ll miss my friends at Nine very much, it has been a huge privilege to work alongside so many great people.”
The reporter started working at the network back in 2004 for Nine News and A Current Affair, before spending some time overseas as a foreign correspondent.
He returned to Australia in 2015, and married his brother’s co-star Sylvia Jeffreys in 2017.
Peter has been the subject of headlines more recently after the Ubergate scandal, which also involved his brother Karl who is claimed to have criticised co-host Georgie Gardner over the phone.
