Tiny 450g puppy survives after being snatched by hawk and dropped from mid-air

A tiny chihuahua puppy has miraculously survived being snatched by a hawk and dropped “mid-air”.

The Austin Animal Centre in the US uploaded pictures of the “miracle puppy” and said construction workers heard him crying just before he was dropped at their feet.

Incredibly, the 450 gram chihuahua only had minor woulds on his chest and is now recovering in the shelter until he is ready to be adopted.

The shelter has named the puppy Tony Hawk after the professional skateboarder.

“We’d like to introduce you to this nugget, who we’ve all taken to calling “Miracle Puppy”,’ the shelter wrote in a post on Facebook.

“This teeny tiny guy was picked up by a hawk and then subsequently dropped from mid-air.

“It’s a miracle that he not only survived, but that the wounds on his head and chest are fairly mild.”

Veterinarian Lindsay Riddick said the chihuahua is now at a foster home and should be adopted out in a few weeks.

“We are so happy that this little fighter will live on to tell an incredible story,” Ms Riddick told KVUE.

A Facebook post from the shelter showed the puppy with an IV in his leg as a warning to small pet owners to be wary of hawks, owls and coyotes.
