TikTok star dies in horrific skydiving accident: 'Can't believe she's gone'

A TikTok star and former Miss Canada semi-finalist has died in a freak accident while skydiving.

Tanya Pardazi, 21, was taking part in her first-ever solo jump in Toronto last Saturday when she fell to her death after reportedly failing to release her parachute in time.

She was rushed to hospital but could not be saved.

Skydive Toronto released a statement on Facebook saying Ms Pardazi succumbed to her injuries at approximately 6pm on August 27.

“The skydiver released a quickly rotating main parachute at a low altitude without the time/altitude required for the reserve parachute to inflate,” the statement read.

“The team at Skydive Toronto is currently working with the South Simcoe Police on their investigation.

“The jumper was a welcomed recent addition to the skydiving community and will be missed amongst the student's new friends and fellow jumpers of Skydive Toronto Inc.”

Ms Pardazi had more than 95,000 followers on TikTok, and many were saddened by the news of her death.

“I literally cannot believe she's gone,” one wrote. “I've never met her but she's been a huge inspiration for me. Rest in peace.”

“Just saw the news. Rest In Peace beautiful I loved watching your videos :( you’ve touched so many peoples lives and your love for science inspires me,” another said.

“Rest In Peace my friend. I’m sorry you were taken from us so soon. I hope afterlife is all that you imagined and more, until we meet again,” a third added.

Ms Pardazi was studying philosophy at the University of Toronto and would share videos discussing science and psychology.

In her last video on August 23, she mentioned that she had been skydiving “a few days ago”, prompting some viewers to label the clip as “eerie”.

She reached the semi-finals of the Miss Teen Canada beauty pageant in 2017.
