Thugs to be jailed for bashing victim over his 'man bun'

A judge has vowed to jail two thugs who bashed a Melbourne man because they didn’t like his man-bun.

Brent Moresco, 20, and Bradley Elmore-Jeffries, 22, cried in court as they learned their fate on Tuesday.

The pair bashed Elliot Harvey at a Brunswick nightclub in May 2017 because they didn’t like the way his hair looked.

Mr Harvey is now blind in one eye from his injuries.

Mr Elmore-Jeffries’ lawyer, Richard Blackwell, told the court his client suffers from anxiety and depression.

“Your honour would be entitled to find that there is a connection between this man becoming intoxicated and acting violently,” Mr Blackwell said.

However, judge Christopher Ryan wasn’t impressed.

“When he’s on the grog he’s a dangerous young man,” he said.

“To put it rustically, he forgets to keep his hands in his pockets.”

The 22-year-old’s lawyer tried his best to keep his client on bail before sentencing, saying his client needed to pack up his belongings and tell his boss he was going to jail.

The judge slammed that suggestion and said the man’s family could do that for him.

Mr Elmore-Jeffries’s mother ran to him as he was remanded but she was blocked by a security guard.

Outside court, Mr Moresco turned on reporters, saying, “Why don’t you get a real job?”

Both men will be sentenced next week.
