Thief who 'looks like Ross from Friends' actually doesn't

Remember the alleged beer thief who went viral for looking exactly like Friends star David Schwimmer? Well it turns out it may have been too good to be true.

Lancashire Police this week released a mugshot of Abdulah Husseini, Schwimmer’s apparent doppelgänger, after he failed to appear in court in Blackpool over allegations of theft and fraud.

The 36-year-old was caught on CCTV on 20 September last year, appearing to carry out a crate of beers.

His resemblance to Friends actor Ross Geller saw him make headlines around the world and even resulted in a hilarious response from the actor himself, who reenacted the alleged robbery.

But in a surprising twist, Husseini’s mugshot actually looks nothing like the US sitcom actor.

“Husseini was due to appear at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court on December 18 accused of theft and four counts of fraud,” Lancashire Police said.

“This relates to a coat, mobile phone and wallet being stolen from Mr Basrai’s restaurant on Talbot Road, Blackpool on Thursday, September 20.

In the days after the CCTV went viral, Schwimmer responded by posting a video to his Twitter account that showed him scurrying through a convenience store carrying a carton of beer before looking up furtively at a CCTV camera.

He captioned the video: “Officers, I swear it wasn’t me. As you can see, I was in New York.

“To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation.”

He added the hashtag #itwasntme to the post.
