High school teen dies in storm hours after prom

A small US town has been left devastated after a high-school teenager was swept to her death just hours after celebrating at her prom.

Alyssa Ramirez’s family and friends say she was on her way home when a storm surge swept away her car, local news Fox29 reports.

Friend Amber Contreras, remembered Alyssa as "a good person, always competitive.”

Classmate Shay Agbert said: “Every time you walk by her, she was smiling, lightened up everybody’s mood."

Alyssa car stalled innhigh water just a few kilometres from her home.

Relatives say she called emergency services and her father but the fast-moving water swept the car away before her mother and father could rush to her aid.

Alyssa was not found until the next morning, Fox29 reports.

Aunt Roberta Ramirez told Fox29 Alyssa’s parents would rely on their faith to get them through.

“...She was a very strong believer and she has her place in Heaven and they’ll meet her again soon.”
