A Chinese baby in the city of Shenzen is suffering from an unknown disease which stops her from growing.

The Daily Mail reported that the child, known as Yuanyuan, has only gained 0.5kg in the 13 months since her birth.

This is less than a quarter of what a healthy baby should have gained.

She has only grown 10cm and her plight has been likened to Benjamin Button, the movie and novel character who was born with the looks of a 70-year-old man and ages backwards.

The parents have nearly exhausted their savings, spending $17,000 on medical treatment.

Yuanyuan is severely malnourished and can only be fed through a tube.

According to the Daily Mail, Shanghai doctor Xiao Yuan responded to the parents call for help on Weibo - a social media site - saying that Yuanyuan may have a digestive system disease.

Dr Xiao suggested the parents take the baby to a hospital in Shanghai.
