A US police officer, killed his wife, children and mother-in-law after he had received text messages from his wife threatening to expose his disturbing dark side, according to new documents.
A Utah police report shows Joshua Boren and his wife exchanged heated texts in the hours before the killings earlier this year.
In the texts, Kelly Boren confronted her husband about raping her and told him their marriage was over, according to The Deseret News report.
His therapist told authorities that Boren drugged his wife and videotaped himself sexually assaulting her on more than one occasion.
Kelly Boren only learnt of the assaults when she found the video tapes, Spanish Fork Police Lt. Matt Johnson said.
The night before she was killed, Mrs Boren texted the word "rape" to her husband four times, the documents show.
The police report says Joshua Boren was sexually abused as a child, struggled with drug addiction as a young man and pornography addiction throughout his life, and had a deep-rooted hatred for his mother.
Joshua Boren had worked for the Lindon Police Department for only three months when the murder-suicide occurred. Before that, he was a Utah County sheriff’s deputy for seven years, Lt Johnson said.
The state medical examiner has confirmed that Boren shot his 32-year-old wife, his 55-year-old mother-in-law, his 7-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter, before killing himself.
