Oil results may reveal first proof of MH370

the Bluefin 21 being pulled back on the Ocean Shield.

As the painstaking search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 enters its 39th day, it has been revealed that more than half of Malaysians believe their Government is hiding information about it.

A survey for Malaysia's Business Standard found only 26 per cent believed the Government was being truthful on the disappearance of the Boeing 777.

But the doubts about the plane's resting place may be put to rest soon with oil - found 5km downwind and down sea from the black box pinger locations - HMAS Toowoomba brought ashore yesterday.

The oil, if from the plane that disappeared on March 8 with 239 passengers and crew, could be Mobil jet oil 11 from the Rolls-Royce engines or hydraulic fluid.

There has been no response from a query on the oil lodged with the Joint Agency Co-ordination Centre.

However, it did confirm more glitches with Bluefin 21, which was forced to resurface again yesterday with a technical problem.

While aboard the Ocean Shield, data with nothing of significance was downloaded and the unmanned submarine was redeployed. Yesterday 14 aircraft - 11 military and three civil - and 11 ships were searching for MH370 debris.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority mapped out a visual search area of about 55,000sqkm, with its centre about 2000km west of Perth.

AMSA is refocusing on an area last searched late last month after getting new drift calculations.

Though the co-ordination centre has been careful not to raise expectations, famous wreck hunter David Mearns told ABC TV's 7.30 he believed the crash site had been found.

"Essentially they have found the wreckage site," Mr Mearns said on Tuesday night.

"While the Government hasn't announced it yet, if somebody asked me, technically, do they have enough information to say that? My answer is unequivocally, yes."

Mr Mearns found the wrecks of HMAS Sydney and HMS Hood.

"You just don't hear these signals randomly in the ocean," he said.

"These are not fleeting sounds - they have got four very, very good detections with the right spectrum of noise coming from them.

"It can't be from anything else."
