The 22-year-old, who was a political activist and student demonstrator, was announced dead on Wednesday.

She became the fifth person to die in the escalating violence in protests against President Nicolas Maduro's government.

She was part of around 100 protesters who were rallying in support of the imprisoned protest leader Leopoldo Lopez, who lead demonstrations against the embattled president.

Family mourned the aspiring beauty queen who was studying tourism before her death.

"How long are we going to live like this? How long do we have to tolerate this pressure, with them killing us?" a relative, who asked not to be named, said. "She only needed one more semester to graduate."
