A woman has been charged with the murder of her fiance's toddler in the US after police discovered CCTV footage of her allegedly buying the supplies needed to commit the crime.
Police allege that the woman took her tiny victim with her during the shopping trip.
Melinda Lynn Muniz, 25, told police earlier this month that an intruder attacked her and Grace Lillian Ford inside her fiance Mitch Ford's house in Plano, Texas.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Ms Muniz was found tied up with her pants down on January 12. The two-year-old was found unconscious in her cot with her mouth covered in duct tape. She died in hospital.
A medical examiner ruled Grace was suffocated, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Ms Muniz told investigators that the suspect — who she described as having dark hair, black gloves and black boots — sexually assaulted her during the attack, but the evidence didn’t support her claim, KTVT reported.
KDFW-TV reports that Mr Ford told police the couple had had a fight on the morning of the attack and that he had told Ms Muniz to move out of the house.
CCTV footage from a nearby store allegedly shows Ms Muniz, accompanied by Grace, buying duct tape, zip ties, kitchen shears and cotton swabs.
“She took the child with her to purchase the items that she was going to use during the commission of the crime,” Plano police spokesman David Tilley said. "Clearly premeditated.”
