Man accused of raping and killing six-year-old girl admits to ten other child murders

A man arrested on Monday for allegedly raping and strangling a six-year-old girl he found sleeping in a truck has confessed to ten other child murders, police say.

The convicted child abductor, who goes by the name Nui, was released from jail in August last year after serving three years and eight months behind bars for the abduction of a child.

He was arrested on Monday following the release of chilling CCTV pictures showing him leading six-year-old Nong Cartoon away from the truck he found her sleeping in. He is accused of raping and strangling the girl before dumping her body in a deserted area of Bangkok.

"He gave her some sweets and told her to come with him and he would buy her more," said police Major General Thitirat Nongharnpitak.

Cartoon had fallen asleep in her father's truck before she was led away by a man known as 'Nui'.

"He then took the girl to a bush area on a deserted plot and attempted to rape her.

"She resisted so he choked her. Then he raped her."

At a press conference following his arrest, Nui apologised to Cartoon's family.

"Apologies to the parents. I didn't mean to do what I did," he said.

Police also said he confessed to ten other child murders.

"In the local context we have to take what the man is saying as being true. Ten other children could well have been raped and murdered," said Sudarat Sereewat, Secretary General of Thailand's Coalition to Fight Against Child Exploitation.

The girl's father wept uncontrollably when he was shown his daughter's floral pants after her body was found in a deserted area in Bangkok.

“I’m sorry my girl. I shouldn’t have left you in the truck. The mean man hurt you,” he reportedly told police.
