Teens tweet video of microwaving kitten

Two schoolgirls microwaved an eight-week-old kitten then uploaded a video of the cruel prank.

CBS News reports the 10-second footage, posted on Twitter, showed the 15-year-olds giggling as they placed the cat inside the microwave, closed the door and turned it on.

The pair, from Maine in the United States, are facing animal cruelty charges, according to South Portland police.

The kitten jumps quickly out of the microwave when the one of the girls opens the door.

Police are unclear how long the kitten was in the microwave, CBS reports.

An animal shelter has been caring for the kitten, renamed Miracle after her lucky escape.

Animal Refuge League spokeswoman Lynne McGee said Miracle was doing well.

"She's eating normally, she seems to be in fine shape," she told CBS.

The teenagers, who are students at South Portland High School, have been summonsed and will face court in November.
