Comedian Ben Elton will return to WA next month to make Fremantle his permanent home with his Australian wife and young family.
Elton has revealed that after years of splitting their time between a part-time home in the port city and their British base, the 15,000km journey has finally become too much.
The British stand-up comic, broadcaster and author said he and his saxophonist wife, Sophie Gare, will relocate to Fremantle before Christmas with their three children, 10-year-old twins Bert and Lottie and son Fred, 8.
"The kids have been at the local school in Sussex. But we are going to swap that around. We are going to relocate back to Australia and live in Freo for a while," Elton told Britain's Daily Mail.
"Being an international citizen of the world with a carbon footprint the size of goodness knows what, I will still be travelling back and forth to Britain and America."
Labor has promised a non-stop train service to Bunbury and to revive plans for a fast train for the city.
