It's Friday, time for a drink in the city

This week we give you tips for shopping, working or living in the CBD — using images taken by people who do just that.

The series culminates tomorrow with an examination of where our city is headed, according to its Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi.

And, with a council election in October, of course, we asked if this vision of Perth includes Scaffidi in her current role.

Tune in tomorrow to hear what she said.

But what are we thinking, tomorrow is the last thing CBD workers want to consider as they prepare for today’s after-work drinks.

Thank the deity of your choice it’s Friday and enjoy our selection of worthy watering holes, categorised by location.

KING & QUEEN

The northern reaches of King and Queen Street are coming alive as sharp operators realise the advantage they’ll have when the King Square development comes online.

The Flour Factory: The Flour Factory on Queen Street has completed its transformation and reopened yesterday.

That means it will be THE place to be tonight.

Varnish on King: What do Richard Wilkins, Greens senator Scott Ludlam and a beaver have in common?

They all have amazing hair and frequent this deeply cool whiskey bar, hidden below street level on King Street.

Varnish is the Australian Hotel Association’s reigning best small bar in WA, FYI.

Old Faithful: We’re calling it a bar because the acoustics and BBQ brisket make it more suited to a night out with mates than an intimate dinner.

NORTHBRIDGE

We’ve stayed within the 6000 postcode all week but today we’ll go to 6003 — Northbridge.

The Standard: From what we hear, the beer garden of this Roe Street hotel is the go-to place for CBD workers on a Friday night.

Lucky Chan’s Laundry & Noodlebar: Did you really think we could compile a list of Perth’s hottest bars and not include this one?

From the team behind The Classroom, this venue packs ’em in until 2am every night of the week, especially Friday.

Sneaky Tony’s: It could be our penchant for dark rum but we love this speakeasy-style venue.

Yes, it’s hard for the uninitiated to find, and we could live without the whole password thing (you get it from the Facebook page), but the bar staff know their way around the hundreds of rums that line the wall behind the bar.

If you can’t get in, we recommend you try Clint Nolan’s other new venue, Joe’s Juice Joint, around the corner.

The Dominion League: The team behind the most-excellent Mechanics’ Institute have turned the old Court Wine Bar into a place you want to go to.

BROOKFIELD PLACE

This precinct represented a coming of age of the CBD when it opened and remains a source of Friday night fun.

Angel’s Cut: The Trustee’s rum bar hums on a Friday night, which is no surprise considering it’s from the same team behind Enrique's School for to Bullfighting in Highgate.

Print Hall: If you need a reason to try it, here are three: WA’s best hospitality venue, best wine list and best outdoor area (Bob’s Bar), according to last year’s AHA awards.

Oh, and the best reason of all is in the photo above.

BEST OF THE REST

It was hard to whittle down the best places to wet your whistle, so we had to include a few more honourable mentions.

Add these to your list: Helvetica, Choo Choo’s at Brookfield Place, The Stables Bar on Hay Street, plus Frisk and Lot 20 in Northbridge.
